Rain has returned today, followed by several nights with temperatures near or below freezing.
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Moisture chances continue today, with another round expected tomorrow and tomorrow night. While daytime highs will gradually warm, overnight temperatures will drop low enough to bring frost and even freezing conditions in some areas.
Tuesday: Much of the region will continue to see rain today. Areas near and west of Highway 183 have experienced a mix of snow, with some accumulation on grassy and elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. As the morning progresses and temperatures rise slightly, any snow buildup will melt and transition back to rain. By late afternoon into the evening, showers will taper off and clear. In addition to rain, isolated thunderstorms may develop in southwest Nebraska late this afternoon and early evening. Temperatures will remain cool, with highs ranging from the mid-40s in the northwest to the mid-50s in the southeast and far southwest. With partial clearing overnight and light winds, conditions will turn chilly. Lows will fall from the upper 20s in the west to the upper 30s in the east. Most areas outside eastern Nebraska will have a chance of frost, with many locations in the western half dropping below freezing.
Wednesday and Thursday: Sunshine will return Wednesday, helping temperatures climb into the upper 50s and low to mid-60s. Later in the day, clouds will increase from the west as showers and isolated thunderstorms develop in western areas and move southeast into the evening. Rain chances will be lower across eastern and northeastern sections. A few showers may linger into Thursday, mainly affecting southern areas. Overnight lows from Wednesday into Thursday morning will be slightly milder, ranging from the low to mid-30s in the northwest to the low to mid-40s in the southeast. Thursday will turn a bit cooler, with highs from the mid-50s in the north to the low to mid-60s in the southeast. Another cold night follows, with temperatures dropping back into the upper 20s and low to mid-30s by Friday morning.
Friday and Beyond: Friday will be milder and mostly dry, with highs reaching the 60s. Overnight lows will once again dip into the upper 20s and low to mid-30s. Warmer weather arrives over the weekend and into early next week, with highs climbing into the 70s on Saturday and rising further into the 70s and low 80s on Sunday. Similar conditions are expected Monday. Both Sunday and Monday carry slight chances of rain. Beyond Monday, temperatures are expected to cool again, with additional chances for precipitation.
