CINCINNATI (WXIX/Gray News) — An Ohio teacher was terminated after posting a social media message about Donald Trump following a shooting incident authorities are investigating as an attempted assassination.
Corrine Baum had been working with young students at BrightPath Bridgetown Child Care Center before the post came to light. The center dismissed her after discovering a video in which she appeared disappointed that Trump was not injured or killed.
Social media post
In a 20-second video shared online, Baum said, “There’s a few creators on here saying like Friday or yesterday could have been the day. And then I wake up to that news, but not THAT news.”
She was reacting to a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a 31-year-old man armed with multiple weapons approached a security checkpoint and exchanged gunfire with law enforcement.
Trump attended the event along with the first lady, Vice President JD Vance, and several Cabinet members.
In her post, Baum sighed before adding, “We’re going to have to pay really close attention to what they’re actually trying to distract us from.”
BrightPath response
BrightPath operates multiple preschool and daycare centers across the Tri-State region. The company released a statement saying it does not tolerate or condone any calls for violence.
“Our organization does not tolerate and explicitly condemns any calls for violence. The comments made online by this individual are deeply inconsistent with our values. The individual in question has been terminated,” the statement read.
A person who identified herself as a friend of Baum said she was not willing to comment and is currently going through a difficult time. No one responded at a residence listed under Baum’s name.
