BELLEVUE, Ky. (WKRC) — A Northern Kentucky man is facing multiple felony charges after police say drugs and a firearm were discovered during a welfare check at a gas station.

According to the Bellevue Police Department, officers responded on April 26 to a United Dairy Farmers location on Fairfield Avenue following reports of careless driving.

Police said they made contact with Matthew Mendell in the parking lot and determined he was under the influence of drugs.

A search of Mendell and his vehicle reportedly uncovered drugs packaged for resale. Investigators later obtained a search warrant for his home on Foote Avenue.

During that search, officers said they found a handgun, ammunition, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, cocaine, several thousand dollars in cash, and equipment used to grow, package, and distribute drugs.

Mendell faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence of drugs, trafficking and importing fentanyl, trafficking cocaine, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, along with other felony-related offenses.
