CINCINNATI (WXIX) — At least a dozen residents at The Evanston say they paid their rent but are now facing eviction notices with inconsistent payment amounts.
Mary Joe Johnson said she received an eviction notice on April 8 stating she owed $1,500. However, she said the amount was later changed to $750 after she met with the property accountant.
Johnson lives at The Evanston, a Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority property managed by Touchstone Property Services. Multiple tenants say they have received similar notices despite paying rent.
Inconsistent amounts raise concerns
Rodney Williams received a notice claiming he owed $1,200. According to tenant Marvin Barnes, Williams’ sister pays his rent each month.
In another case, a resident said she was told she owed about $3,000 for four months of unpaid rent, even though her monthly rent is $300. Four months of missed payments would equal $1,200.
Residents say the conflicting figures have raised questions about recordkeeping and billing accuracy as they try to resolve the notices.
