Eaton announced plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Nebraska, increasing production of switchgear—critical infrastructure for data centers, utilities, and industrial operations.
The intelligent power management company said it will invest more than $30 million to expand U.S. production of medium-voltage switchgear, which protects, controls, and isolates electrical systems used in power generation and distribution.
With nearly 3,000 data centers planned or under construction across the U.S., demand for electrical infrastructure is rising. The switchgear market is projected to grow from $17.8 billion in 2024 to $31.8 billion by 2034.
To meet this demand, Eaton will build a new 370,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Bellevue, near Omaha. The plant will focus on high-volume production of engineered-to-order switchgear for AI-driven data centers. These systems can be integrated into prefabricated power solutions designed for flexibility, modularity, and efficiency.
Production of both air-insulated and gas-insulated switchgear is expected to begin in the first half of 2027. The expansion will also create more than 200 new jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and production, with hiring expected to begin later this year.
“Eaton is making bold investments to drive growth—expanding our U.S. manufacturing footprint, adding jobs and helping customers accelerate projects,” said Mike Yelton, president of Eaton’s Electrical Sector. “We’ve reimagined how data centers are built and are providing a blueprint for rapid, repeatable deployment. As we continue to invest in U.S. manufacturing, we’re grateful for the strong support from the state of Nebraska and the city of Bellevue. Our newest manufacturing investment builds on the incredible abilities of our long-term employees in the region.”
Eaton said its integrated “grid-to-chip” portfolio supports growing demand from data center, industrial, and utility customers by offering scalable and modular systems that can be deployed globally. The switchgear produced in Omaha will help deliver reliable, safe, and resilient energy.
“Eaton’s major expansion in Nebraska is evidence of the competitive advantages we offer to manufacturers,” said Governor Jim Pillen. “With unmatched affordability, a growing workforce, and a business-like approach to governance, we’re ensuring Nebraska remains open for business. Eaton’s investment will create strong career opportunities while supporting the state’s energy sector.”
“Eaton’s investment in Bellevue marks a significant milestone for our community,” said Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike. “We have made job creation a top priority, and we’re excited to partner with Eaton to bring hundreds of jobs to the area. We look forward to a long-term partnership.”
Eaton will expand its local manufacturing capacity by relocating operations to the new facility, located about six miles from its current Omaha site. Existing employees will transition to the new location over time.
Since 2023, Eaton has invested more than $1.5 billion in expanding its global manufacturing capacity.
Founded in 1911, Eaton reported $27.4 billion in revenue in 2025 and serves customers in more than 180 countries.
