Three U.S. states could see one or two tornadoes on Thursday as severe weather moves through the region.
The National Weather Service is warning of potentially strong storms that may bring thunder and lightning, heavy rain, strong winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
The states most at risk include:
- Nebraska
- Kansas
- Missouri
Severe weather could impact a broader portion of the region as conditions develop.
“Forecasts suggest a multi-day threat for severe weather across the south-central U.S. is coming by this weekend and into early next week,” the National Weather Service said.
Tornado safety tips
Stay Weather-Ready: Keep monitoring local news or a NOAA Weather Radio for updates on tornado watches and warnings.
At Your House: If a tornado warning is issued, move to a basement, safe room, or an interior room away from windows. Bring pets if time allows.
At Your Workplace or School: Follow tornado drill procedures and go to your designated shelter quickly and calmly. Avoid windows and large open areas like cafeterias, gyms, or auditoriums.
Outside: Seek shelter inside a sturdy building immediately. Avoid sheds, storage units, mobile homes, or tents. If possible, get to a safe structure.
In a Vehicle: Vehicles are not safe during a tornado. Try to drive to the nearest shelter. If that’s not possible, stay low in your car and cover your head, or leave the vehicle and take cover in a low-lying area like a ditch or ravine.
Stay safe.
