Three people, including two juveniles, have been charged in connection with the killing of a 19-year-old in Clermont County, Ohio, according to the prosecutor.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol initially responded to what was reported as a possible hit-and-run along Bethel New Richmond Road just after 4 a.m. on March 8. Troopers found Jayden Nelson dead in the roadway but quickly determined the scene did not match a typical crash.
An autopsy by the Clermont County Coroner’s Office revealed Nelson died from a gunshot wound to the head, with the bullet lodged in his brain. Investigators then worked with the local sheriff’s office to pursue the case further.
Prosecutor Mark J. Tekulve said authorities identified and arrested two male juveniles, ages 16 and 17, along with 19-year-old Dakari Campbell.
According to Tekulve, the suspects traveled to New Richmond, Ohio under the pretense of selling marijuana to Nelson. Instead, they allegedly robbed him of more than $3,000, took his cellphone, and left his body on the side of the road.
All three suspects face multiple charges, including aggravated robbery and aggravated murder.
The investigation also uncovered what officials described as a “wide-ranging drug operation” with connections across multiple counties.
“Too often, the youth of our counties get caught up in a world of drugs and violence and face few repercussions,” Tekulve said. “In Clermont County, we do not tolerate this type of behavior… Our citizens deserve to feel safe, and my office is committed to holding those accountable.”
