CASS COUNTY, Neb. (KOLN) – A man was hospitalized and later jailed after deputies say he swallowed drugs during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened around 1:56 p.m. on Highway 75 near Cindy Lake, where a Cass County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a Dodge Ram for a traffic violation.

During the stop, deputies determined the driver, Matthew Couleur of Burnsville, Minnesota, was driving under revocation and had drug paraphernalia in his possession, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities said a vape device found in the vehicle tested positive for a Schedule I narcotic.

Couleur was taken into custody and transported to the Cass County Jail. Once there, he reportedly complained of feeling ill and admitted to swallowing some of the drugs.

Emergency crews transported him to Bellevue Medical Center, where he was evaluated and later cleared.

He was then arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, driving under revocation, and operating a vehicle without a valid permit.
