The three other people in the vehicle were also Concordia students and members of the track and field team, according to the university’s website.

“Our Concordia Nebraska family is heartbroken. We ask for your prayers during this time, for our campus and for the family and friends of the young men involved in this accident, that we can all find comfort in God’s love and healing grace.”

Statement from Concordia University, Nebraska

According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 10:20 p.m. Friday on Interstate 49 in Harrisonville, Missouri.

The report states the four students were traveling northbound in a Toyota Prius when a southbound Ford Explorer entered the northbound lanes and struck their vehicle.

The Prius caught fire after the crash, while the Ford came to rest in the median.

Authorities said Wing, who was driving the Prius, died in the crash.

All three passengers were transported to the hospital — one with serious injuries and two with minor injuries.
