Officials in Campbell County have officially started construction on a new, centralized public safety complex aimed at improving emergency response and coordination.
What the Project Includes
The new 58,000-square-foot facility, located in Alexandria, will bring multiple critical services under one roof, including:
- Police department
- Office of emergency management
- Dispatch center
- Coroner’s office
The site spans more than 17 acres and will also feature a dedicated garage facility.
Why It Matters
Currently, these agencies operate from separate and outdated locations, which can slow coordination. According to Steve Pendery, the new complex is designed to change that.
He emphasized that housing all services together will lead to:
- Faster response times
- Improved communication
- More coordinated emergency services
Instead of functioning as separate units, agencies will operate as one unified team when responding to emergencies.
Modern, Purpose-Built Design
The facility isn’t just another office building—it’s being custom-designed for public safety operations.
Architect Brandstetter Carroll Inc., which has designed over 200 similar facilities, highlighted that the building will be flexible enough to adapt to future needs and population growth.
Costs and Construction Plan
- Land purchase: $1.6 million
- Pre-construction phase: up to $80,000
- Construction manager: Conger Construction Group
The project follows a construction manager-at-risk model, meaning the contractor guarantees the final cost—helping protect taxpayers from unexpected overruns.
Timeline
- Construction start: Summer 2026
- Estimated completion: 18–24 months
