(KMDL-FM) — A widely used household cleaning product has been recalled after reports of injuries, even when used as directed.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the product was sold at Walmart and Target stores between October 2024 and March 2026. It was also available online through retailers such as Amazon and HSN, along with other websites selling cleaning products.
Recalled product estimated to be in over 1 million homes and businesses
The scope of the recall is significant, as the product was on the market for nearly two years. The CPSC estimates about 1.7 million units were sold and may still be in use in homes, offices, schools, daycares, and businesses nationwide.
The recall involves 12 models of the BISSELL OmniReach Steam Cleaner. Officials issued the recall after multiple reports of burn injuries linked to the product.
The CPSC said the steam cleaner’s attachments can unexpectedly detach during use, releasing hot water or steam onto users and creating a serious burn hazard.
Bissell has received more than 200 reports of hot water or steam being expelled from the attachments. Of those, 161 resulted in burn injuries, including one second-degree burn.
