Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in a single-vehicle crash that seriously injured a Stanton man late Tuesday night.

Shortly before 11:50 p.m., deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a rollover crash on Highway 24 east of Channel Road, according to a press release. Authorities determined that a sedan traveling westbound lost control and rolled into a field south of the highway.

The driver and sole occupant, 32-year-old Cisco Rhinehart, was ejected from the vehicle. He was airlifted by LifeNet to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha with suspected serious injuries. Officials said Rhinehart was likely not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation, while the sheriff’s office is reviewing possible charges. The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office and Norfolk Fire and Rescue also assisted at the scene.

Highway 24 near the crash site was closed for about an hour.
