The Omaha Streetcar Authority has introduced a new way for people to receive text alerts while traveling in the area, announced during its monthly webinar.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha Streetcar Authority unveiled a new direct messaging system that allows users to get text alerts while on the go.

Officials said the feature is new, though some users who previously signed up for email alerts may have already shared their phone numbers.

Those interested in viewing assembled rails can visit Farnam Street between 11th and 13th Streets, where 320-foot rail sections are now in place.

Construction on the streetcar maintenance facility is also progressing. The building, essential for operations, is located between the I-480 bridge and the Kiewit Luminarium.

Bridge work, road closures continue

Weather permitting, crews plan to install girders on the Farnam Street bridge during the weekend of April 10, starting at 9 p.m. I-480 is expected to partially reopen by noon on April 12 and fully reopen by 6 a.m. on April 13.

Turner Boulevard and Farnam Street will remain closed until late April, while Turner Boulevard and Harney Street are expected to stay closed through mid-April.
