Driver of overturned vehicle hospitalized, faces DUI charges
One person was arrested following a crash in West Omaha on Thursday night.
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Authorities responded to a crash on the elevated Dodge Expressway near Interstate 680 just before 9 p.m. Thursday.
In an update Friday, Omaha Police said officers found a vehicle flipped onto its roof at the scene.
Justin Deluna, 34, was arrested and charged with DUI. Police identified him as the driver of the overturned vehicle.
Court documents state that witnesses saw Deluna’s car weaving through traffic lanes to pass other vehicles before swerving to avoid a collision and striking a concrete barrier. The vehicle then rolled multiple times.
Officers reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol, and Deluna allegedly refused to identify himself and spat on officers. He also declined field sobriety tests, a preliminary breath test, and a blood draw, even after a judge approved a warrant.
Deluna was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation before being booked into jail, according to police.
He faces multiple charges, including DUI greater than .15 with five prior convictions, driving with a revoked license, refusing a DUI arrest, obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest, willful reckless driving, and refusing a pretest.
Deluna appeared in court Friday, where his bond was set at $275,000. He is scheduled to return to court on April 23.
