What is Mega Millions?
Mega Millions is a lottery game played across 45 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Each ticket costs $5. Players choose six numbers from two pools: five numbers from 1 to 70 (white balls) and one number from 1 to 24 (gold Mega Ball). Alternatively, they can opt for an Easy Pick or Quick Pick.
To win the jackpot, a player must match all six numbers drawn. If multiple players win, they split the jackpot.
How to play Mega Millions
To play, purchase a ticket from locations such as convenience stores, gas stations, or grocery stores. In some states, tickets are also available online.
After buying a ticket, select six numbers—five white balls from 1 to 70 and one Mega Ball from 1 to 24.
If you prefer not to choose numbers, you can request a “Quick Pick” or “Easy Pick,” which allows the system to generate random numbers.
Mega Millions tickets now include a built-in multiplier that boosts non-jackpot prizes by two, three, four, five, or 10 times. Previously, players had to pay extra to add the Megaplier.
