PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. (WOWT) — A Wisconsin man arrested in Nebraska following an Amber Alert has agreed to be extradited back to Wisconsin.
Joseph Nicpon, 44, appeared in Cass County court Tuesday via video and waived extradition, agreeing to return voluntarily. He also waived his right to counsel during the hearing.
Nicpon was taken into custody by Cass County deputies after an Amber Alert was issued early Saturday for an 8-year-old girl. Authorities later confirmed the child was found safe that afternoon.
Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol located Nicpon’s vehicle traveling west on Interstate 80 near Gretna. He was pulled over after exiting at Greenwood and heading north on Highway 63.
Nicpon will remain in the custody of the Cass County Sheriff until he is transferred to the Wisconsin State Patrol, which has up to two weeks to take him into custody before a judge may set bail.
According to reports, Nicpon — a registered sex offender on supervised release since March 31 — had removed his GPS tracking device prior to the incident. Authorities say he allegedly met with the child and her mother, despite being prohibited from contacting them, and the three left Wisconsin together.
The child’s mother, who was also listed as a suspect in the Amber Alert, was taken into custody for questioning by Wisconsin authorities.
Court records show Nicpon was convicted in 2017 of incest involving a child and served a prison sentence followed by extended supervision. A separate charge of repeated sexual assault of a child was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
