A man accused of murder in Ohio has been arrested across the country by police in Seattle, Washington following a nationwide warrant.
Authorities say 24-year-old Emory Green and 37-year-old Barbara Mathis are charged with murder and felonious assault in the death of 34-year-old John O. Nichols III. The case stems from an incident in Hamilton County, Ohio.
According to prosecutors, Green and Mathis allegedly beat Nichols during a physical altercation in fall 2024, causing severe injuries including a fractured skull and broken jaw. Nichols remained hospitalized and in long-term care for months before dying from those injuries last July.
Suspect Located in Seattle Apartment
Police in Seattle tracked Green to an apartment in the Roosevelt neighborhood near the University of Washington.
Detectives and SWAT officers set up a perimeter and arrested him without incident on April 2, according to the Seattle Police Department.
Green was booked into a local jail and remains in custody, awaiting extradition back to Ohio.
Co-Defendant Released on Bond
Mathis, who was initially held on a $500,000 bond at the Hamilton County Justice Center, later had her bond reduced by Alan Triggs.
Her bond was set at $20,000 with electronic monitoring, and she has since been released.
Investigation and Charges
Green also faces an additional charge of cocaine trafficking. Prosecutors say the case began as a verbal dispute that escalated into violence.
Authorities continue to move forward with the case as Green awaits extradition and further court proceedings in Ohio.
