OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A Wednesday morning crash in Omaha left one person injured and caused a power outage affecting thousands.
Police responded shortly after 6:45 a.m. to a crash involving a vehicle that struck a utility pole near 72nd and Blondo Streets.
Authorities confirmed that one person was transported to the hospital following the incident.
According to Sgt. Jason Menning with the Omaha Police Department, crews from the Omaha Public Power District also responded. At the peak of the outage, about 2,180 customers in the surrounding area were without electricity.
Power was largely restored just before 8:30 a.m., and traffic in the area reopened approximately 15 minutes later.
Drivers were advised to use alternate routes such as Maple or Cass during the disruption.
Due to the outage, St. Pius X/St. Leo School canceled classes for the day, according to a post on social media.
