(NewsNation) — Federal immigration authorities have issued a detainer against a man accused of causing a deadly high-speed crash in Ohio that killed a 17-year-old girl and her unborn child.

The Department of Homeland Security said Tarsem Singh, an Indian national who entered the United States illegally, was indicted on several charges, including involuntary manslaughter and vehicular homicide. Police say he led officers on a chase that reached speeds of 100 mph on Feb. 16.

Authorities said Singh fled in a Range Rover for about five miles before crashing head-on into another vehicle. The collision ejected his passenger, Ashlee Holmes, who was pregnant, from the SUV. She later died, according to DHS.

“This is yet another tragic reminder of why illegal aliens should not be driving cars on America’s roads,” said DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis.

DHS said Singh was taken to a hospital for treatment before being arrested. He is currently being held on a $1 million bond.

According to DHS, Singh entered the U.S. illegally through California in February 2017 and was later released on bond after an earlier arrest. He also has a pending asylum case.

If convicted, Singh could face deportation.
