CINCINNATI — State, local, and federal law enforcement agencies recently teamed up for two violent crime reduction operations in Cincinnati, resulting in nine felony arrests and the seizure of seven illegal firearms.

What You Need To Know
The Cincinnati Police Department (CPD), Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) participated in the initiative

On March 12, 2026, CPD and OSHP attempted a traffic stop on a 2006 Ford Taurus around 10 p.m. before the suspect fled

CPD and OSHP troopers also stopped a blue 2016 Chevrolet Malibu shortly before 7:30 p.m. on March 12

On March 16, during a second operation, additional suspects were arrested on charges including drug trafficking, having weapons while intoxicated, and obstructing official business

“Every illegal firearm and repeat violent offender we remove from our streets makes Ohio a safer place to live, work, and raise a family,” said Mike DeWine. “By combining local, state, and federal resources, law enforcement is better equipped to stop criminals before they have a chance to cause harm.”

The initiative brought together the Cincinnati Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office to carry out targeted, data-driven operations aimed at removing repeat offenders from communities.

On March 12, CPD and OSHP attempted to stop a 2006 Ford Taurus around 10 p.m. The driver, identified as Carmin Thomas, 27, failed to pull over.

Ground units ended the pursuit, but the OSHP Aviation Unit continued tracking the vehicle. Officers later used a tire deflation device to stop it.

Thomas fled into a wooded area and ignored verbal commands to stop. Officers deployed a taser and took him into custody without further incident.

Officials said Thomas had an active felony warrant for failure to comply from a previous case in Colerain Township. He now faces an additional charge related to this incident.

Earlier that evening, CPD and OSHP troopers stopped a blue 2016 Chevrolet Malibu around 7:30 p.m. for a window tint violation. A CPD K-9 alerted officers to the presence of illegal drugs during an open-air sniff.

Officers searched the vehicle based on probable cause. The suspect, Darryl Kidd III, 21, attempted to flee before officers used a taser to detain him.

During the search, officers recovered two illegally possessed firearms. Kidd admitted the weapons belonged to him and now faces charges including having weapons under disability, carrying a concealed weapon, receiving stolen property, and obstructing official business.

During the second operation on March 16, authorities arrested additional individuals on charges such as drug trafficking, having weapons while intoxicated, and obstructing official business.
