CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Storms and strong winds knocked out power to thousands of Duke Energy customers across the Tri-State late Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, wind gusts reached up to 58 mph just before midnight at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati.

At Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, the highest recorded gust was 41 mph at 10:52 p.m.

Utility crews worked to restore power after outages peaked at more than 8,000 customers early Monday, according to Duke Energy’s outage map.

The number has since dropped to 578, with all but one located in southern Ohio, mostly in Hamilton County.

Earlier, about 2,000 customers in the Indian Hill and Mariemont areas lost power after a tree fell onto utility lines on Miami Road, according to Hamilton County dispatchers.

In Clermont County, a tree fell onto a home around 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 4700 block of Vicarb Lane, Union Township dispatchers said.

Residents were inside at the time, but no injuries were reported.

Officials contacted the building department to inspect the home.
