OHIO — The threat of severe thunderstorms later this week could lead to school delays or closures in parts of Ohio, particularly on Friday.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, portions of the state are under a “slight risk” for severe weather on Thursday. Storms are expected to develop late in the afternoon and continue into the evening.
Forecasters say the system could bring very large hail, damaging winds, and the possibility of a few tornadoes.
While the storms are expected to move through quickly, they could still cause significant damage. Strong winds may knock down trees and power lines, increasing the risk of power outages in some areas.
If outages or storm damage occur overnight into early Friday, school districts may need to decide whether to delay or cancel classes. Areas dealing with blocked roads, fallen trees, or power loss could face disruptions.
Meteorologists say the storms will form along a cold front moving across the Midwest and Ohio Valley. Favorable atmospheric conditions could allow storms to strengthen rapidly, raising the risk of hail and isolated tornadoes.
Although the exact impact remains uncertain, school officials across Ohio are expected to closely monitor conditions and make decisions based on safety concerns.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and prepare for possible severe conditions that could affect travel and school schedules heading into the end of the week.
