OMAHA, Neb. — An Omaha woman accused of financially exploiting a vulnerable adult has been convicted and sentenced.

Andrea Heim was found guilty of misdemeanor theft by unlawful taking, according to court documents.

She received a sentence of 18 months of probation. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of abuse of a vulnerable adult was dismissed.

Heim and Patrick Thornton, who lived together, were assigned caretakers and took the adult into their home in March 2025.

Although they received a monthly stipend of $755 to cover room and board, investigators found more than $2,500 in unauthorized purchases made using the adult’s personal debit card.
