A man is in stable condition after authorities transported him to an Omaha hospital on Thursday, March 19.

Around 11:41 a.m., officers with the Norfolk Police Division responded to a reported shooting at a home in the 900 block of West Meadow Ridge.

When officers arrived, they located a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. Norfolk Police said he was conscious, alert, and able to speak with officers.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue also responded, and crews airlifted the man to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha as a precaution.

According to law enforcement, preliminary findings indicate the shooting was accidental. Investigators determined the firearm discharged while being handled inside the home, striking the victim.

“Both individuals present provided consistent accounts of the incident, and there is no indication of criminal intent,” the Norfolk Police Division stated.

Police said officers have completed their on-scene investigation, and no charges are expected at this time.
