LINCOLN – (KFOR Mar. 23) – Lincoln Police said a man is suspected of driving under the influence and later assaulting an officer following a crash late Saturday night.

LPD public information manager Erika Thomas said an officer arrived at Bryan West Campus shortly after midnight Sunday to assist with a DUI crash investigation that occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday. The officer contacted the driver, identified as 33-year-old Hans Devall of Lincoln, who crashed his black 2013 Kia Forte into a tree. Officers found several mini bottles of alcohol, marijuana and THC products inside the vehicle.

Thomas said Devall was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he began spitting saliva and blood toward nurses and officers. As officers tried to restrain him, Devall twisted one officer’s finger and kicked him in the jaw, causing injuries.

Devall remains in the hospital receiving treatment for his injuries.
