Nearly 300 apartments are set to replace First National Bank’s former headquarters in downtown Omaha, with units expected to be available as early as next spring.
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Developers are planning to transform First National Bank’s former headquarters in downtown Omaha into nearly 300 apartments.
The 22-story building, located across from the taller First National Bank Tower, currently sits mostly vacant. Developers will convert most of its floors into residential units.
NuStyle Development, which is also leading other downtown projects, said it is excited to expand housing options as the area continues to grow.
“We’re big believers in the streetcar. We’re two blocks off, and yeah, we’ll keep bringing our apartments down here. We’ve got 713 sitting behind us that we’re working on right now,” said Greg Rothermel, director at NuStyle Development.
Not all tenants will leave the building. The Omaha Press Club will remain on the top floor and expects the added residents to boost business.
“Think about the happy hour. I would love to go to a nice restaurant and have a happy hour, and not have to drive,” said Steve Villamonte, executive director of the Omaha Press Club.
Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, with apartments expected to be ready as early as next spring.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is currently the only remaining tenant in the building. NuStyle said it plans to relocate to the WoodmenLife Tower once its new space is completed.
