A reckless driver died after running a red light and hitting several vehicles in Butler County over the weekend.

Around 5:20 p.m. Saturday, Butler County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a reckless driver in a Mazda6 traveling westbound on State Route 129.

The vehicle exited onto State Route 747, where it sideswiped a silver SUV before continuing northbound.

The driver then made a U-turn and headed southbound on SR 747.

As the vehicle approached the SR-129 bridge, it ran a red light and crashed head-on into a Ford F-150.

The Mazda then struck a guardrail and came to a stop on the bridge.

Emergency crews transported the Mazda driver to UC West Chester Hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s identity.

The driver and passenger of the Ford F-150 were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The occupants of the sideswiped SUV were not injured.

Officials shut down State Route 747 in both directions while crews responded and investigators processed the scene.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (S.T.A.R.T.) continues to investigate the crash.
