A magnitude 2.5 earthquake was reported in south central Nebraska Thursday morning.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — A magnitude 2.5 earthquake struck south central Nebraska Thursday morning.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred just southeast of Cowles, Nebraska, at 6:15 a.m. CST. The quake happened at a depth of about 3.1 miles.
This marks the fourth earthquake reported in Nebraska so far this month. On March 1, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded south of Hastings, about three miles east of Cowles. Tremors from that quake were felt in both Lincoln and Omaha.
Nearly an hour and a half later, another nearby earthquake was reported. USGS measured that tremor at magnitude 2.6. On Sunday night, a third earthquake was reported by USGS with a magnitude of 2.6.
“That’s a pretty big earthquake for Nebraska,” an expert said while reacting to the multiple earthquakes reported on Sunday.
